Lighting and Set Design
Toronto, Ontario - 1997
The script Froth by playwright Banuta Rubess is a spectacle based on shopping and hysteria. A Queen Street, Toronto storefront was taken over for the production of Froth in 1997. A labyrinth-like installation of scaffolding and store fixtures was mounted within. Audience seating lining both sides of a runway space were interspersed with racks of clothing. Philip Beesley acted as lighting designer and collaborated with Dany Lyne in set design for the production.
High-key lighting states including saturated magenta and emerald green washes, staccato flashes and spectral scatterings were employed in a tightly scripted and timed performance integrating live music, dance and highly stylized acting. The performance was featured on City TV's Fashion Television.
